Legal Question in Discrimination Law in New York
My Supervisor has repeatedly broght my age into discussions
I have been under the employ of a cooperative in Manhattan's Upper East Side,for the past three years.During this time,my supervisor has had numerous confrontations with me.At times he raises his voice and yells without provocation, and has said things such as,"Because you're young you think you're smarter than everyone else." Also,"You young motherf#@$@#."And things of this nature.I have witnesses to some of these incidents.Also he has tried giving me warnings and even tried to suspend me, but has not been able to do so.I am tired of his "nit-picking" and have told him so.I am a Union Member, but I fear they will do nothing in this situation, and I'd like to know if I have a case here or not.I am constantly told things about the way I comb my hair,to the way I stand when on my break.I feel he doesn't have the authority to do so,but I feel I am at my wits end.Can you help?I am trying to work my way through college and desperately need this job.Thank you.

Because you are a union member, you should talk to someone at your local regarding your employer. Procedurally, you may be required to exhaust your collective bargaining agreement before pursuing legal action.
