If you are asserting an innocent owner defense or other defense to retain possession of the vehicle, you should appear with counsel. You will be required to give proof (usually in the form of testimony). Also, the process is different in Suffolk vs NYC and for first or second time offenders. Nassau does not hold retention hearings.
