Legal Question in Elder Law in New York

I have an 85 year old Grandfather. He refuses to take medication. He can't cook. He leaves stoves on. He always falls. He constantly is losing checks, money and is utterly confused about everything. I think I'm looking to apply for conservatorship. The woman in probate court was an attitude ridden witch, who had no answers to if I was even in the proper court. Department of the aging has been less than helpful. I'm trying to figure out what type of attorney I need for the next step on making him mentally incompetent of making decisions? I'm not even really sure where to start or if I'm going about this the proper way.

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. I am going through this with me dad and it is very emotionally draining for everyone. Yes, you're going to need to hire an "Elder Care" lawyer.
