My elderly aunt has her alcoholic brother living with her. We were told today that she is in a unsafe living situation due to the fact that she is caring for her brother when she can not care for herself. He refuses to leave and is not on any paperwork and des not pay rent. What do we do?

That's a tough situation all right. Is your aunt competent to make her own decisions? Who told you she was in an 'unsafe situation'? Sounds like both your aunt and uncle need help. I would want to know more facts about the situation before giving any advice.

I would need to know more information about your aunt's capacity. Does she have advance directives in place? What is unsafe about the living situation? Is it a case of exploitation?
