I live on long island and the entire island is slowly getting back on it's feet after being hit by Hurricane Sandy. I know LIPA has been working it's hardest to get power back to all the residents but I have a question. My grandfather is in his 90s, 100% Italian and a WWII veteran, the surrounding streets around him all have power, however his block still is without power and LIPA has not given an estimate as to when it will be back. For the past two nights, and also tonight, he has been sleeping at my house with my parents and I as we have power however during the day he continues to stay at home. We noticed that he has been severely shaking and complaining of being cold constantly, my mom (a registered nurse) thinks he might be coming down with pneumonia. My question is, is there a legal issue if power is being returned to surrounding areas but not a street that has elderly people inhabiting it and they are becoming sick due to the lack of heat and power?

Therearemany questions and issues. FEMA is paying for displaced people. Plus the home owners policy may cover displacement.
