mother and nursing home
I have Power of Attorney and a health care proxy. I was wondering how to go about putting my mother in a nursing home. She lives with me and is mentally competent but can't care for herself physically. It is getting to the point that I can't do the care all on my own and no one will help.

Re: mother and nursing home
If your mother has medical and disability insurance, and monetary savings in her own name, you need to consult with an attorney to evaluate exactly what she needs to do to enable her to qualify for some combination of insurance and SSI
to pay for her care. Generally, the funds she has may need to be put in trust or "spent down" to accomplish this. An elder law attorney will come up witha plan designed to address these problems. If you live in the Long Island vicinity and wish to make an appointment please contact my office.
