nonpayment of money won

What can I do if someone owes me money that was won on a football pool ? I took a chance on a office pool for the 2007 superbowl in Feb and won final score. However the guy who was running the pool spent the money. He told me he was going to take out a loan and pay me by mar 21st. He signed a note stating this but I have heard nothing from him.

Nothing. his kind of gambling is illegal in New York.

A court will not enforce an illegal contract or adjudicate illegal gambling disputes. Your only remedy is self-help.
