Poor man's copyright
If I mail a CD containing music I created to myself and get it stamped and sealed will it hold up in court if someone subsequently steals it and tries to claim it as their own?

It may as far as establishing the date it was created but you will not have certain benefits provided by the Copyright Law. You should go to www.copyright.gov and fill out and mail the appropriate application. It's quite simple. It will cost you all of $45.00 and postage. Once you've registered the work, you will not only have proof of the date upon which the work existed, but you will have procedural benefits and access to more substantial remedies should your work be unlawfully copied.
