Legal Question in Entertainment Law in New York
Preliminary Conference
I am handling a breach of contract by myself with a former manager. He has sued me and I now have to attend a preliminary conference with the judge in NY Supreme Court. It is froma notice called request for judicial intervention. Can anyone tell me what happens at these conferences and what I need to be prepared with.

Re: Preliminary Conference
A prelim conference is usually done between the parties. It is meant to sew up issues like deadlines on discovery and to narrow issues at the trial. Sometimes it is done with a law secretary and on rare occasions by the judge himself.
Be prepared to tell the court how much time you will need for depositions and to serve notices for discovery and inspection. If you want some good advice (beyond GET A LAWYER) you might want to try to adjourn the confernece and go to a legal bookstore (like Ed's bookstore across the street from St. John's law school. Get a copy of the "Nutshell" series book on Pretrial Litigation. It should be easy to read and understand. If you don't read it and finish it and understand it, GET A LAWYER.
Good Luck.
