Legal Question in Entertainment Law in New York
Setting up my own brand
I am a hip hop artist/beat-maker looking to brand myself under an incorporation. Is this the best avenue to travel if i want to start my own business? If so, what steps should I take to further my carreer as a business owner?

Re: Setting up my own brand
Do not confuse an incorporation with a brand. The former is a tool for protecting assets and getting backing, the latter is a marketing tool.
You should not make this decision alone, even with advice on this board. Your question about incorporation needs follow up questions to figure out what form of business governance you need and can afford.
As for further advice, I would again arrange an interview and maybe even hire a lawyer and accountant to mentor you on these issues. A cost of less than Five thousand dollars with these types of professionals will save you hundreds of thousands and maybe millions in the future.
I am available to speak to you about this. Just follow my links below.
Good Luck.
Re: Setting up my own brand
I have an interesting background in this question, as I ran an hip-hop label at one point... The advice given to you before was quite on point... you should be aware to know the difference between a 'brand' and a 'corporation' - they are in now way synonymous...
as far as your business 'structure' (incorporating) there are various things to consider, such as the fact that under a strict corporation the likelyhood is that you will more frequently be filing taxes, if you're looking ot make a 'true' brand you will haveot be advised properly on the idea of preparing to take your company public - here I am also uniquely qualified to advise you as I worked with the Bureaus of Securities with the Attorney Generals Office of the State of NEw Jersey.
