Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I am almost 18. I want to leave as soon as possible, but my parents are worried that they will still be liable for my actions even after I am 18 and on my own. Is that true?

In New York, a parent maybe liable for a child financially until the age of 21. However, if a child is "emancipated" (ie self supporting - married, full time employment, military), the parents may not be held liable. The issue of full time employment may be the trickiest, based on whether a child can support him or herself on their income alone.
