Legal Question in Family Law in New York

i am 17 and i am having problems. i need some help. a family that was really good friends with my mom want to get custody of me. my mom is no longer alive she killed herself when i was 10. from there i went to a cousins then an aunts then foster care then i left PA and went to my dads in NY. i never new my dad before this. there has been many problems and i eventually got out of there and now i live in a group home. so you can tell me and my dad are no strangers to famliy court. i wanted to know the chances of this family to get get custody of me?
