Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I am 15 turning 16 in December. I live with my mom in North Carolina and my dad lives in Florida. They establised child custody in the state of New York when I was 3. I do not want to live with either of them. I want to live with my grandparents. Is there a way to go and live with my grandparents and not live with my mom or dad?

Yours may not really be a legal question. Unless there is some reason why your parents are unfit, or unwilling, to keep custody of you, I do not see what basis a court would have to give custody to your grandparents, if it is against your parents will. You could, however, live with your grandparents if your parents and grandparents agreed to that arrangement.

Assuming that your grandparents are both willing and up to the task of caring for you, it would probably make more sense if there was a good reason for your request. Such as, if it would allow you to attend a better school, or a school that provides something that your current school does not. Or, if you would be moving in order to train in a sport or discipline not available where you are living now, but of course available where your grandparents live.
