Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I have an 17 year old son, behavior problems, no job failing school, dangerous etc. When he is 18 can I ask him to leave our home, that I am no longer responsible. He refuses to go to school or get a job, he is very abusive but only up to the point where I can get the police involved. I have another child and an elderly person also living in the house.

As the custodial parent you will still be responsible for him at the age of 18.

What you might try is filing a Person in Needs of Supervision claim for him with Family Court in your county.

You may also try getting him some counseling.
