Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Abandonment

My wife left me while I was working. Two weeks before the new year began. She did not tell me where she was, nor did she worry about how I was to handle the rent and utilities of the place that we shared. I had to move out and handle the rent and such until the lease was up. Now, she wants me to give her the security deposit back that I received after the lease was up. Is she entitled to anything since she abandoned me six months before the lease was up?

Thank you.

Re: Abandonment

Since I do not know all of the facts, it is difficult to answer your questions with precision.

However, if you are both on the lease, then your wife is equally responsible for the rent and associated costs. So arguably, the total cost incurred in breaking the lease should be borne by each of you equally.
