Adoption

I was adopted at 3 days old in Puerto Rico, my mother just passed, what rights do I have as an adoptive child. Mom left a Last Will and Testament can the state go aginst anything said on the Will?

Re: Adoption

This is a complex question and I don't know whether your adoptive mother or natural birth mother passed away or whether your natural birth mother gave up all rights to you upon your adoption.

I assume that should she have given up all rights to you upon your adoption and merely stated in her will "all property to my children," then you may not be included in such devise. If she specified you in the will, then such gift is valid.

Of course, if your adoptive mother passed away and this is her will, you are her child with all the rights to the estate as any of her natural children.

But I am guessing as to your situation.
