Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Adoption in 1962

I am an adoptee searching for my birthfamily. I have very little info to go on, I know my birthname, birthmom's name, birth hospital and birthdate. There is very little other background info. Bmom was of hispanic decent and probably single, and no permanent address.

I've been told by my Amom, that there is NO documentation on my adoption whatsoever except for the final amended birth cert. (which I am in possession of). I'd like to know what should been documented, or what probably was and is either hidden or 1962 garbage. My Amom is so against my searching, so who knows what she did!

Thanks in advance for any answers!

Re: Adoption in 1962

Regardless of what your adoptive mother has

done with her records, there is still a court

record in the court where the adoption

occurred. However, New York is still

very much a restrictive state relative to

access to such records. They are not

available for public review, and the

understandable curiosity to know of one's origina

will not be sufficient to pierce such veils.

There are organizations available for assistance

in both searching such for such records

and with coping with the underlying feelings

Contact your local Department of Social

Services for such contacts
