adoption

i was legally adopted by my stepfather, about 1960, the proceeding was in manhatten althougfh our residence was phila. my step father has passed away,i would like to find out if my real father died and when for religious reasons, how would i accomplish that?

The place to start is with your mother if she is alive you can ask her. Whether she tells you anything is up to her. If she isn't she may have kept the adoption papers if she did they might offer some clue as to your biological father's identity and his address at the time. Though that address would be 48 years old.

As to getting information from the court the records if they exist are probably sealed and even if they aren't the records are probably in storage that might not be accessible very easily.
