Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Adoption question

Husband and wife have son, then divorce.

They go to court to arrange weekend and shared holidays and child support.

Man visits with son until he is 8 yrs. old.

After an argument with X, leaves her to raise the son.

He comes back 7 years later. While trying to arrange a meeting with his son, he is told his X and her new husband want to adopt the child and is given a lawyers number.

Ok. I screwed up. But I have been paying child support and I think my son should at least see me first before -he- agrees.

what are my rights and what should I do?

Re: Adoption question

If you do not consent there will be no adoption and you can return to family court to attempt to regain visitation. The court mignt require counselling considering the time lapse. You should seek an attorney
