Hello I hope you can help my husband and I. We are in the process of
adopting a child and have a few questions about adoptive parents rights.
I am a school teacher in NY and my district is in the process of trying
deny me the right to take paid child rearing leave. Women in my
district who gave birth to children have been entitled to take a paid leave
using their sick days according to our contract. Is it legal for them
to deny me the same right?

Rights of Adoptive Parents to Child Care Leave

You did not mention whether you addressed this question to your attorney or even to your teachers' union.

Adoptive parents are entitled to the same chid care leave as birth parents, regardless of gender.

There are also unique tax benefits available to just adoptive parents.
