Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Age child can choose

I have an 11 year old child who does not want to go visit his father anymore. He currently sees him 3 times a year. Is there an age when a Judge will listen to him about stopping the visits?

Re: Age child can choose

The legal age for that decision is 18, however the court often hears children on the issue far sooner. 11 may be to young however. It depends on the maturity of the child and the cause for his refusal to want to see his father.

He will likely be appointed a law guardian, encourage him to be honest with the law guardian.

Good Luck.
