Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Age of Emancipation in NY (for college tuition purposes)?

College tuition payment issue was never included in my divorce decree. I have residential custody of my son, 18 and live in NY. His father earns 10 times what I earn. What is considered ''age of emancipation'' in NY, and can my ex-husband take me to court to try to force me to pay for my son's college tuition? I was told that once a child reaches 18 (or is it 21 in NY?) the former spouses can no longer go to court for issues such as college tuition, etc. Please clarify, as I cannot afford my son's college tuition, however, my ex will try somehow to get me to pay via litigation?

Child support is paid until the child attains the age of 21. The father can be ordered to pay or contribute to the child's college expenses.
