Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Broken Engagement
If I decide that my fiance and I have irreconcilable differences...and that moving ahead with our marriage plans is not in our best interests, what recouse do I have to reclaim the engagement ring? It is a very expensive ring, and was only bought at that level because she already owned a house, and I wouldn't have to use the money on a downpayment for my own. Thankyou for any advice you may have.

Re: Broken Engagement
Prior to marriage, absent extraordinary curcumstances, you have a right to get an engagement ring back if the marriage does not go through, if your fiancee doesn't voluntarily agree to surrender the ring you can bring a legal action if it becomes necessary.
