Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Hello, I take care of my boyfriends children on a regular basis. My boyfriends work schedule is crazy and is not able to make appointments and take the kids to appointments and such. I am going to school full time and I am able to do those things for the kids. The only problem is that I am not a parent or legal guardian and it makes it difficult. The only forms online I see are for temporary circumstances so I was wondering is there some sort of form or forms we would have to get a hold of so he can give me authorization to do things for the children. Thank you for your time!

What types of problems are you having? Your boyfriend can certainly give authorizations to schools and health care providers on a provider by provider basis to enable to you act in his place for the kids. While I suppose you could ask a family court to make you the joint custodian of the child, they may be reluctant to do so. It would be a heck of a lot easier for administration of the kids if you and your boyfriend were married, and perhaps it would be unwise for you to take any further legal responsibility for children that are not yours unless/until your boyfriend commits to marry you. Good luck.
