Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Change in child support
I live in CA, my ex and child lives in new york. the court's ordered me to pay 48.00 per week, this number was based on last years income. since then I've become a student and there is now way I can afford that amount. I was sent some forms that directed me to may direct payments to the court. in response i sent a letter explaining my situation. my girlfriend offered todo it and i told her to send it registered mail. she didn't. so i have in front of me my new income tax forms that show i am a student and only making 6500 per year. They have yet to contact me and that first letter went out some two weeks ago.
i'm not sure where to go with this next.

Re: Change in child support
The fact that you have choosen to go to school does not mean that the child can wait to receive food, clothing and shelter. Unless New York has laws different that California, which I doubt, you will not be able to reduce child support. From California standards, your child support is low. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
