Changing your childs last name.

I just wanted to know what procedures do 1 need to know about to change my childs name. And how do I begin doing it?

Stephen is absolutely correct. The procedure is relatively simple and requires that the name change petition be published in a local newspaper of general circulation which either you can choose or the court will desingate.

You need to file a petition for a name change in a civil court of the county where you and your child live. You will need to provide the circumstances regarding the reason you want to change the name of the child. Depending on the age of the child the child may have a say. And depending on the relationship with the child's other parent, the court may want to hear if the other parent has any objection to a name change.
