Legal Question in Family Law in New York

changing a lawyer in the middle of a divorce

I am in the middle of a divorce my lawyer i feel is not helping me and believe he can be hurting me. i am going to speak with another lawyer however i am due to go to court in 10 days and i dont want to go with my current lawyer.

Should I tell me current lawyer to postpone the court date for another week but if i tell him to do that i am not sure what to why i want to postpone. I know we still need to fill out and file more information, if i hire the new lawyer would this new lawyer be able to come with me to court of do i have to go to court by myself and request new attorney. I am very very confused going through a divorce is hard enough and not having the right lawyer behind you is very scary. please let me know how to do this

If you decide to change lawyers you should ask your new lawyer what to do.
