Legal Question in Family Law in New York
child abuse/divorce
My 23 year old daughter just told me that my husband, her stepfather, sexually abused her for over a year when she was 13-14 years old. He doesn't know she told me because he ahs threatened that he would kill me if she ever told. I have twin 9 year old boys with him and need to protect them as well. I am sick over this and don't know how to proceed first. I want to divorce him but he has no idea.

Re: child abuse/divorce
Run to a lawyer who handles matrimonials and if they deal with Sexual abuse and issues of domestic violence all the better (not all Matrimonial lawyers want to be involved with that stuff. It gets messy) The lawyer you chose to consult with will give you complete privacy and good advice as to how to proceed. Proceed quickly however so that you are not held responsible for failing to act on behalf of your kids once you learned the truth.
My office handles matrimonial and family law cases that stem from violence and sex abuse in the home. You may contact us through the links below.
Good Luck.
