Legal Question in Family Law in New York
can a child who was adopted legally look for his adoptive parent at 16
I recently found out that one of my children i gave up for adoption 13 years ago wants to have contact with me and be with me when he turns 16 because the people who adopted him are mean to him putting him down and making him feel bad all the time mentally.i had cousins who were placed for adoptions around the same time and at 16 the located their biological parents.I am more then happy to have my son with me if he can legally do so at 16.he has a stable loving home to come to and he wants to be with me more then anything in the world.your advise on this matter would be greatly appreciated as it is he has to sneak around to talk to me on the internet. please get back to me as soon as possible as he will be 16 in a few weeks.

YOU do not have any legal standing to petition for custody of or visitation with a child that is not your child, in the eyes of the law.
However, if you believe a child (your natural child) is suffering abuse, whether physical, mental or emotional, at the hands of anyone, you do have the option of reporting the alleged abuse to the authorities, for their investigation.
You may also indicate your relationship with and continuing interest in the child's wellbeing, but you must be very careful NOT to overstep the line, by attempting direct involvement in this youngster's life, without the approval and consent of his parents. To do otherwise could expose you to civil or criminal action.
Good luck,
