Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Child Custody and not married
I have put my child's father on Child Support and he is very upset. He wanted to settle this out of court but I told him no. So he is talking about his rights to child support as well as child custody. What is meant by Child Custody? When he told me that, I concluded that it means that he wants to take my child away from me, meanwhile we are not married and he has never seen my daughter and never supported her in any way, shape or form. All he has seen is pictures. He lives in Florida and I live in New York. Plese Help.

I'm not sure what he means (why don't you ask him) although custody usually deals with issues of how a child is raised, and important decisions in relation to raising a child. Perhaps he means visitation.
Your child's father's interest, is perhaps a good thing. It's usually a positive for the child to have 2 interested parents involved in his or her life.

Its not that bad! This means he wants to have an opportunity to visit with his child when he is in NYC.
That is all he could hope for in any action for custody/visitation. There is nothing more to this.
This is not something for you to worry about. When the child is 16 or so, he may require that the child visit him in Florida. Even this may not be permitted by a court.
