child custody move

My wife's ex husband of 10years in and out of court , Child Support, Stalking, stc. We were married together 4 years. I lived in Seattle fro six years prior, My only career for 25 years and have to move for economic situation, home and money disaster! # children from her previous marriage. 21,19, 14. Can our 14 ( son) move with us , His DAD has visitation and exercises it at will ( no schedule) never previous envolved inany school or sports with him. He is on Anti buse, had his visitation curtailed last year because of alchol abuse. We need to move from NY to CA/seattle? Can he stop us...Thanks..--name removed-- Step -Dad

Whether there is court order for visitation or not, if he sees his son regularly and has a relationship, the Court will have to determine if and when his mother can move out of state with the child. There are several factors the court will take into account, one being the fact that she is remarried and another is relocation for employment. THese are given considerable weight.
