getting child custody

would like to know about getting custody of my niece who is 16. I live in north carolina, she in new york.

You need to provide more information, including what exactly is it that you want to know? You will probably have to file in NY. If your niece is living with one of her parents, you will have to show certain extraordinary circumstances, in the nature of maltreatment, exist before the Court will entertain your petition.
