Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Child custody
I am a single mother who has been raising my son for all of his 2 1/2 years. In early 2006, I lost my job and was without for about 6 months, relying on my family for help. The father of my child decided to step into my sons life and wanted to help out so I gave him the opportunity. We made a verbal agreement to have joint custody. Now I have moved and I have a job now going on 5 months. I also rely on foodstamps and cash assistance from dss. The father of my child has reported false accusations to cps for drug use and having parties with undesirables in and out of my home. I have a violation on my record thats all. Do you think that he can be granted full custody of our child? Is there a way I can receive full custody or even joint? I gave him the original birth certificate so our child could get insurance. but i havent heard of any medical reports. Basically he's trying to manipulte me in order to be granted custody. What can Ido to protect my child and my rights?
