Child guardianship

My husbands step-son (who will be 16 in January) is living with his mom in new york and his family life is not the greatest, he wants to come live with us here in texas but his mother will not allow it. Is there a way of getting guardianship or custody of him without having a long drawn out battle.

Probably not. There is no magic wand to avoid having to take this to Court to get it changed.
