Legal Question in Family Law in New York

My child now lives with me can I collect child support?

My daughter is 18 and I have paid child support since she was 3. She has not been in trouble. She is a senior in high school and she has decided she wants to live with me. Do I still have to pay child support to her mother? Can I collect child support from her mother now?

You do not have to pay child support if you now have full custody of the child. As the custodial parent you can seek modification of child support, directing that the mother makes payment under the Child Support Standards Act.

In New York, child support continues until age 21.
