Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I have a child and his mother just recently filed for child support requesting 30% of my salary. currently my son who is 19 months just started day care that monthly cost $1600. Prior the baby was with me and on days that I was not able to watch him was under the care of my mother 5 days a weeks close to 10 hours daily. I just recently found employment and have not been working for a month as a Store Manager. I have also added my son onto my health insurance plan. I can't afford a lawyer and she has one. We met with a mediator and she now does not want to follow the plan set by them. I would like to know how I should be going about defending myself and fight for a appropriate child support payment?

Child support in New York is calculated pursuant to the New York Child Support Standards Act ("CSSA") (Domestic Relations Law 240(1--b) and Family Court Act 413(1)(b)). There are too many variables that unfortunately are not known to me for me to estimate what your child support would be. As for defending yourself; I recommend that you somehow someway obtain representation. I am not in your area, however, if you qualify Legal Aid of Rockland County may be able to help you. http://www.legalaidrockland.org/
