Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Child support arears
My child support was through the county court system and enforcement unit. He was to pay $35.00 per week and he maybe paid 1 years worth since 1971/72. I have made attemps to get my money by contacting the enforcement unit, Governor Pataki, and even a letter to the president. The best I got was a response from Pataki that he had turned it over to proper dept. My question is, since they are supposed to be strongly enforcing payment of these cases of deadbeat dad's and have not, do I have any recouse against the state for not enforcing the law? In the last 29 years he left the state for about 3 months, the rest of the time he has been within 25 miles of the court house. I understand he recently inherited a good bit of money and turned it over to his sister because he might have to pay me if he kept it. I also advised enforcement of this.
Thank you.

Contact the support unit of your local attorney general's office. They will bring a contempt action on your behalf.
