Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Child Support
I would like to know what assurances that were put into the child support act that makes sure that the person whom is receiving the child support spends the money on the child, such as clothing. I would hope that the lawyers were smart enough to do this because what good is the law that requires child support, but does nothing to insure that the money goes where it is supposed to go. My daughter is asking her mother to buy her clothes for school and is getting only 75 dollars allowance per month out of close to 425 dollars per month that I pay. She is using the rest to pay her bills. Just how much clothing can one expect to be able to buy for 75 dollars!

Re: Child Support
This is a common issue. Generally, the custodial parent (CP) has no obligation to account to the NCP as to how child support is allocated.
Values differ as to whether a child should have "name" brand designer clothes or "bargain" clothes. The CP must also budget for food and shelter, school supplies, medical care, entertainment, etc.
However, where a NCP has reason to believe that the child is being neglected, then the law provides various remedies.
