Legal Question in Family Law in New York
child support
My boyfriend is being railroaded by suffolk county family court, and we believe we need an attorney to advocate for him. my first question is, if one's child is 19 and hasn't lived at home for months and is self-employed and has no intentions of furthering her education, does the male parent still have to provide financial support?
thanks for your kind attention,

Re: child support
Tha facts you provide indicate that the child may be emancipated for child support purposes. Your boyfriend should consult with an attorney to figure out whether he should file a petition to terminate the order on that basis. If he is not paying, the arrears continue to accrue, however, so time matters.
Re: child support
Your son should be represented by an attorney; the costs up front are worth it in these matters. A self employed 19 year old living by himself who is not in school is an adult (emancipated). I recommend Attorney David Woycik at Sanders, Sanders, Block & Woycik, in Mineola, NY. Contact them at 516.741.5252. They are a strong litigation firm.
