Legal Question in Family Law in New York

if i am on child support collection unit, and college expenses for my kids is a 50% for each parent do i need to go to family court or can i just send a certified letter to ex husband with attached bills requesting payment in 30 days and if no response can it just be put through the child support collection unit. I was awarded college expenses 6 months ago thru a family court order

You should send the bills to your ex husband via certified mail and with a cover letter stating how much he owes to you. As you suggest, you should definitely indicate in the letter that he has a reasonable amount of time (i.e. 30 days) to remit payment to you. If CSU will not help at that point, you could always return to Family Court and file a violation of support petition to force him to pay.
