Legal Question in Family Law in New York

child support

my husband has a son by someone else. the mother and the child live in new york state. he has not heard anything from this girl for about 2-3 years. out of the blue this girl calls him up and want to know if he wants to know his son. she said if you want to know him you can send stuff for him and if not you can sign your rights away. what we want to know is if she could get him for back child support either way even if he signs his rights away. and if he doesnt do that and he does send him money how do we protect ourselves.

Re: child support

She cannot get support retro-actively. If he signs away his rights to the child and she accepts it, she will be giving up her right to seek child support in the future.
