Legal Question in Family Law in New York
child support
I make $356 week gross. I pay for insurance for child and court ordered support. After this and taxes I bring home $193. Now NYS support unit is saying they are taking +$50/week more for Medicaid arrears. This will leave me apprx $140 a week to live on. This will not cover rent/food/car payment/car insurance PLUS gas to get to work at $4.00 gallon. This leaves me nothing for car repair, personal needs or copays for medical needs. My child's mother is on welfare and living with boyfriend who is also on disability and welfare. I am better off quitting and going on it myself as there is no way I can pay what they want and survive.
Each time I ask for modification they deny me or increase the amount.
I have two seperate accounts they hit me for one for child support and one for medicaid arrears.
Any suggestions?

Re: child support
You should go to the ny courts website, go to the family law section and fill out a petition for downward modification. Then I would go to legal services and get a lawyer to help you out.
