Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Is child support paid by either parent?

My ex-wife and I have two children, ages 18 and16. We each plan to take custody of one child. Will child support need to be paid by the father, who was the principle bread winner prior to the divorce? Or, will no child support be necessary from either parent?

Re: Is child support paid by either parent?

You would calculate child support due from each parent, then offset the parent that pays more money from the parent that pays less money. In this case, the father would pay mother child support less the amount of money the mother would pay the father in child support.
