child support payment

My son is base at fort drum watertown he is separated he is paying 500+ for child support that is more than half his pay check is he paying for her other kid which myson did not adopt she had a son 2yr old when my son met her I thought you had to legally adopt the child.

It's hard to say exactly how that happened. He is legally required to support only his child
