Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Child support/emancipation
I have not seen my daughter since 1992 (turning 21 in 08/07). Married for 18 months. Appear in Oswego CO. NY Family Court for hearings. Have been taken to court at least 50 times in the past 16 yrs. The latest is I'm ordered to pay 9,000.00 in college tuition for daughter, never supplied with college bills, $130.00 per week support (daughter is not living at home) and 100% medical coverage and non-covered medical. When this went before the hearing examiner, ex-wife was making more money than I along with my support and a 2nd ex-husband's support for two other children. I can not afford to pay this, am trying and have by June 1st or jail time. No where to turn. Thousands of dollars in lawyer fees and no one can help. I am desperate for some kind of help. Beginning to think something is up with my ex-wife and the family court. Have two other children who live with me and their mother (16 years). Carpenter by trade and have been out of work recently. Any advice? Would like to file a complaint and make someone pay for this travesty

Re: Child support/emancipation
Depending on the timing and circumstances of the current order, you may be able to file objections for review by a Family Court judge. Consult with an attorney IMMEDIATELY to determine if this avenue is open. You cannot appeal an hearing examiner's order without a judge denying your timely objections. Feel free to call my office on Monday to discuss this further.
