Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Child Support/Medical Coverage

I am divorced and pay child support, along with providing health insurance for my children. I am also responsible for a portion of out of pocket expense. I was told by my insurance carrier, that after a child turns 18 yrs old, even if I am responsible for insurance coverage, I would not be responsible for actual medical bills in New York state....is this true? Thanks.

No. Support obligations in New York continue until the child is 21 years old.

Re: Child Support/Medical Coverage

New York State requires you to support your child until age 21. The other controlling document is the Stipulation or Judgement from your divorce. It controls over law. You need to read the stip to see what you agreed to.
