Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Child Support/Paternity Issues

I was recently contacted by a former girlfriend regarding paternity of a child. The baby is currently 8 months old. We had been together in New York, and during the pregnancy she moved to Florida. I wanted to know if 1) The paternity test would be administered in New York and 2) If she had the legal right to move to Florida with the child and still request child support, being that I wouldn't be able to see the child.

Re: Child Support/Paternity Issues

You need to consult with an attorney immediately. Paternity and interstate support laws are complicated. Your action or inaction can have very serious and long-lasting consequences with respect to both child support and custody/visitation. The obligation to support one's child does not depend on where the child lives or whether the parent is involved in the child's life. Call an attorney right away.
