child visitation or custody

basically i have a son that's 3 yrs old my son's father doesn't help out at all finiacially, he is now taking me for visitation rights i just wanted to know what should i be prepared or bring before the judge i'm really nervous and only 20 yrs old my son's father is 26 and i think he may have something up his sleeve and i want to be prepared

You should be prepared to seek a visitation schedule that works for you and your child. If you have any legitimate concerns, raise them.

Unless there is a reason to limit visitation, or to require supervised visiation (usually in cases of abuse), the father will be entitled to see his child. Depending upon all of the facts and circumstances, it is common for a visitation schedule to include one or two weeknights and aleternating weekends with an overnight (Sat. morining to Sunday evening).

You may also consider filing a petition with the court for child support. The law requires a non-custodial parent to pay child support. The amount is determined pursuant to law. There is probably an office at you local Family Court that can help you with the procedure. Please note that the support petition will not be determined by the court when you appear for the visitation issue. You will likely receive a future court date for the support petition.
