Legal Question in Family Law in New York

child visitation

I have physical custody of our daughter. Her father sees her on Tues, Thurs and e/o Sat. Am I obligated to let him see her on other days, if he asks? He wants to see her on Wednesday, giving me only 4 days notice? Our daughter does not want to go with him. Can I get in trouble for saying no regardless of his reasons?

Re: child visitation

The first question is, why do you not want your daughter to visit with her father? And why would your daughter not want to see her father?

These are important questions because it is generally in a child's best interest to have a relationship with both parents. Visitation is more for the child than the parent.

Courts generally expect custodial parents to encourage their children to have a relationship with the non-custodial parent. Unless there is a valid reason for your daughter not to see her father, you should encourage her to do so.
