Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Children Gaurdianship Procedures

I'm active duty military stationed in Hawaii. I'm looking at getting (mutually agreed upon) guardianship of my younger sisters 2 kids. I'm trying to determine how long and what legal fees may incur during the process? The children currently reside in NY with their mother.

Re: Children Gaurdianship Procedures

My sympathies for your sister's poor health.

Regarding your question; the documents are not complex. The petition is made under Article 81 and there are 6 forms that must be prepared and submitted to the court.

The NY Bar Association offers lecture/workshops in Queens and Manhatten to teach how to perform and become a guardian.

My fee for preparing all 6 documents would be $800. You and your sister (she is the one in NY) are welcome to a consultation for no fee.

Mt best wishes for her improved health and ultimate recovery.
